Elementary School Athletics • Activities • Arts
The Activities and Athletics division is an integral part of AISD’s mission to challenge students to achieve their potential. We believe that by engaging students in a comprehensive activities and athletic program enables them to become better school and community members and provides opportunities not ordinarily available in the regular curriculum.
The division offers a wide variety of academic and arts activities along with a variety of clubs and service opportunities that provide students with multiple avenues to explore their interests and. Participation in activities and athletics promotes leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, goal-setting and other valuable life skills.
Activities and athletics are an essential part of a holistic approach encompassing the intellectual, emotional, physical, social and spiritual elements of each student.
After School Activities
The AISD Elementary School academic experience is complemented by a strong extra-curricular program. Our program is designed to reflect and support the school’s mission and core values.
We strive for full participation by offering a range of opportunities and experiences outside of the school curriculum to encourage learning and growth of the individual.
Our Elementary School students participate in one or more of dozens of activities offered through our After School Activities (ASA) program. Activities in sports, crafts, arts, foreign language, computers, and hobbies are taught by either AISD teachers or adults hired from the community.
- ES Activities are organized by age band within three categories: active/creative/ educational
- Each quarter approximately 40 activities are offered to ES students
- 500+ student registrations per quarter
Learning in, through, and about the arts stimulates creative action and response by engaging and connecting thinking, imagination, senses, and feelings. The arts have their own distinct languages that use both verbal and non-verbal conventions, mediated by selected processes and technologies. Through movement, sound, and image, the arts transform people’s creative ideas into expressive works that communicate layered meanings.
By participating in the arts, students’ personal well-being is enhanced. As students express and interpret ideas within creative, aesthetic, and technological frameworks, their confidence to take risks is increased. The ES Musical occurs every year and involves students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Any student in these grade levels can participate, as long as they are committed to rehearsals and performances.
ES Productions Include:
- A Kid's Life
- Jungle Book
- Pirates Past Noon
- 101 Dalmatians
AISD offers a competitive, interscholastic sports program for Elementary students in Grade 3, 4 & 5. The goal of this program is to give students a non-threatening, active and fun introduction to a competitive sports environment. Coaches will be teaching the values of teamwork, sportsmanship and responsibility.
The Elementary Tigers Sports program follows the same four quarter schedule as regular ASA’s. There will be a new team/sport every quarter, with the swim team being a team that runs all year long. Team placement for all ES Tiger teams will be determined by attendance and/or by random placement with the goal of each team being equitable. Any student who commits to attending all practices, regardless of talent, will be part of one of the tournament teams.
The emphasis of the ES Tiger Sports program is not on winning at any cost, but rather building self-confidence, skill development and growing a love of sport.
Tiger Sports Include:
- Track & Field
The beauty of children is that they don’t let what they can’t do (yet) interfere with what they already can.
