Atheletics & Activities
AISD MS Activities and Athletics aspire to intentionally build esteem and social skills within students - being a part of a larger like-minded group is often more important than the activity itself.
Students will have an opportunity to get involved in a variety of after school activities at the Middle School level to positively affect their health and wellness. The program is structured to allow students to participate in academic, athletic, musical and other clubs with different offerings each day. AISD believes that at this age level activity exploration of various kinds allows students to discover and develop their interests and passions. Activities are available to all students in sixth to eighth grade and are free of charge. Transportation to and from school is provided for weekday activities (Sunday-Thursday) to those students who live in the Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara neighborhoods. Different types of activities are spread out across the week to allow for varied participation. Students sign up for activities quarterly via a google form.
Arts
The act of making art allows us not only to think for ourselves but also to feel for ourselves. As we move headlong into a future of gadgets and electronic waves - art helps us to stay connected - to ourselves, to our community and to the rest of the world. Art was the first means of communication and it remains universal.
At AISD we endeavor to instill a life-long love, respect and understanding of the arts as a whole. In the middle and high school we strive to offer a challenging curriculum and diverse co-curricular program to appeal to all students involved. A focus of our program is to provide multiple opportunities for self expression and growth.
Theater Arts
From improvisation workshops, opportunities to audition for annual productions, travel to an ISTA festival or star in an IB short - there are many opportunities to shine in the Theater Arts program. The Theater Arts co-curricular program is an extension of classroom instruction and development with performance ideas and training occurring in both settings
Visual Arts
In concert with the classroom curriculum the MS/HS visual arts programs allow for student agency and engagement. Middle school students learn to become innovators and out of the box thinkers in the art environment. A variety of mediums are used - from clay sculpture to claymation, sketches to printmaking and watercolor to graffiti art. High School students have a unique perspective to offer art projects as idealistic and thoughtful creators.
Young adult artists become adept at the foundations of art as they apply them to IB Visual art classes and co-curricular passion projects with the opportunity of SAISA art travel.
Musical Arts
The Music department offers AISD a comprehensive blend of traditional class based ensembles to co-curricular clubs and performance activities to enrich the cultural life of AISD. With curricular programs such as symphonic band, guitar and choir along with co-curricular offerings including Jazz Band, Woodwinds, Brass and more - students at AISD are encouraged to 'find their voice'.
SAISA Band and Choir along with AMIS Music provide opportunities for our musicians to take their talents abroad and represent the best of AISD.

Athletics
At AISD we believe strongly in the value that the interscholastic athletic competition program brings to the school and the student community. The AISD HS Athletics program is offered as an educational activity first and foremost - an extension of the classroom experience that provides unique opportunities to teach life lessons. Within the program lessons related to leadership, goal setting, teamwork, decision making, perseverance, integrity, sacrifice, competing with character and overcoming adversity are developed.
The positive educational outcomes of interscholastic athletics at AISD do not happen by chance. They happen because teachers, coaches and school administration adopt an intentional and purposeful approach to the interscholastic athletic experience.Wins are achieved through AISD athletics by developing successful athletes and teams, but more importantly, wins are achieved through the educational experience by developing successful and responsible students, leaders and community members. At AISD we adhere to the philosophy of the Positive Coaching Alliance and the Double Goal Coaching program - "While being competitive and winning is an objective, it is more important that coaches teach life lessons through sports experiences.
Coaches will model and teach players respect through "Honoring the Game" while players focus on mastering their sport and behaviors which leads to higher effort, learning and improved athletic and life performance.

Activities
AISD students have the opportunity to shape their high school experience through their activity involvement. We encourage students at the high school level to find and follow their passions via art, creativity, academic, service, athletics, and other pursuits. AISD hosts many clubs, fine and performing arts opportunities, as well as our SAISA activities and athletics (South Asia Inter-School Activities conference) to allow students agency in creating their path.
Unique AISD student experiences like AISD 'The Voice", the annual talent show, quarterly Class Colors Nights, SAC Fairs, and more round out the high school experience.
The goal of our Activities programs is to facilitate student activity so they can enhance society by contributing beauty, enjoyment, scholarship, service and action. Students are expected to analyze, interpret, evaluate, synthesize and develop ideas, beliefs and abilities during these learning opportunities. By maintaining intellectual curiosity and setting goals for personal growth students engaging in the activities program develop their sense of self and their place in the world.
