The Middle School is committed to helping all students achieve their academic and personal potential.

Middle School

The Middle School realizes this commitment by offering a broad and balanced curriculum with a strong academic foundation and a varied exploratory program and extra-curricular program. A strong Advisory program, a Student Support Services program and Service Learning program enhances our ability to support and nurture the intellectual, social and emotional development of adolescent children.

As stated in the AISD vision statement, we want our students to leave our Middle School equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be stewards of a just and sustainable world.

The core courses are grade level appropriate and parallel offerings of similar American international schools. Teachers in each of these core curricular areas share common planning time during the week and use this time to collaborate in the areas of curriculum and instruction. They also use this time to identify and establish cross-curricular links between subject areas.

  • Exploratory courses are required 9-week courses designed to provide students with a broad and balanced program of study.
  • Electives are optional one semester or one-year courses that provide students with an opportunity to choose subjects for which they possess an interest.

The partnership between school and family is essential to the success of a Middle School student. We look forward to working in partnership to ensure that your child feels included, challenged and successful in our Middle School!

Co-curricular Program

The Middle School has a vibrant co-curricular program designed to meet the interests and needs of students. Each quarter, Middle School students have an opportunity to participate in a variety of after school and weekend activities, which include intramural sports, games, digital media, art, drama, and music.

Class trips

Middle school class trips extend and integrate school curriculum within an outdoor/cultural setting. Middle School students travel with their grade level classmates to a particular site in the South Asian/Asian region.

Grade Level Advisory Program

The Advisory Program at AISD is a support system designed to help students feel a sense of belonging and connection to the Middle School. Each student is assigned to a teacher/advocate who is responsible for overseeing that student's total performance and involvement in the Middle School.

Meeting daily, the advisor has the primary responsibility of monitoring the academic, social and personal well being of each student. Teachers who serve as advisors for the same grade level share common planning time and meet weekly to monitor the implementation of an advisory program.

This program is enriched through special programs, which include service learning projects, assemblies and town meetings, and clubs.
