Technology at AISD

At AISD, we ignite our students’ innate curiosity, support their passions and foster a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

Our vision is to help our students develop their strengths and find their passions as they become stewards of a just and sustainable world. To support this holistic vision, we use technology intentionally to amplify our students’ learning and increase their abilities to communicate, collaborate, express themselves creatively, think critically, and solve problems.

Technology is more than a set of tools or devices. Technology enhances student learning. Students benefit from leveraging technology to become more innovative and entrepreneurial.

Teachers leverage technology to enhance face to face instruction as well as extend student learning into blended classroom environments. Our entire community profits by using technology to improve our workflow and organization.

We are committed to a balanced approach to technology.

We are sensitive to the needs of our students in different grade levels, tailoring the time and method of technology use based on what is most beneficial for them at each age and stage of development. We are also cognizant of the need for students to spend quality time unplugged from all devices in order to learn in myriad ways.

Design Thinking in our Maker Space

AISD offers opportunities for students to apply design thinking.  In our Maker Space you can find students using different robots, Makey Makey equipment, and other building tools to apply computational thinking.  Students program bots on iPads, or complete simple programming on the computer.

Elementary School

The Elementary applies the ISTE standards. We encourage students to be creators of content, not just consumers of content.

In PYP, information and Communication Technologies (ICT ) encompasses the use of a wide range of digital tools, media and learning environments for teaching, learning and assessing. ICT provides opportunities for the transformation of teaching and learning and enables students to investigate, create, communicate, collaborate, organize and be responsible for their own learning and actions. ICT allows students to make connections and reach a deeper understanding of its relevance and applicability to their everyday lives.

Through the use of ICT, learners develop and apply strategies for critical and creative thinking, engage in inquiry, make connections, and apply new understandings and skills in different contexts.

Middle School

Middle School students at AISD are learning to navigate their digital world.

We continue to emphasize Digital Citizenship throughout the year and apply the ISTE standards in our curriculum development. Students use technology to enhance their understanding of content areas, connect to their learning community, and understand the world around them. Students develop skills in collaboration, research, problem solving, and critical thinking.

Students are creators of content, not just consumers of content, finding original ways to demonstrate their learning through new tools. Middle School students are finding their voice and understanding how their voice can be used in a positive way. In addition to the academic use of technology we also stress appropriate use and balance of technology.

High School

In the  high school’s IB environment, technology is used purposefully to enhance student learning.

We continue to emphasize Digital Citizenship throughout the year and apply the ISTE standards in our curriculum development. Teachers encourage students to become lifelong learners, apply critical thinking skills in finding and assessing credible resources. Students are empowered to take initiative of their own learning and collaborate with peers to better articulate understanding.

Teachers provide multiple technology entry points for students to demonstrate understanding.  We value the process of learning and embrace the growth mindset.  Students understand that as emerging global citizens they have a voice and a role in how they use technology to amplify their message.

State of the Art

American International School Dhaka offers high quality classroom technology. Teachers and students have full access to digital displays in every classroom. Our wifi is consistent and stable throughout the school. Students have access to check out a laptops, or camera a daily basis from the Technology Department. The Technology Office also offers a wide range of microphones, speakers, sound board, iPads, cameras, and other equipment that encourage students creative passions. Our digital arts students include a set of AR headsets to design in 3D.

Teachers include opportunities for coding small robots and our most exciting new addition is a set of Virtual Reality headsets for students to see the world in 360.

Responsible Digital Citizens

All of our students are responsible digital citizens and will gain the knowledge and skills to safely harness the positive power of technology. They learn what it means to be responsible digital citizens in conversations and in developmentally appropriate lessons, using technology in a manner that respects and protects  themselves, others, and digital property. We are also committed to helping our students become media literate, understanding how to evaluate the quality and validity of sources of information. They understand that it is their right and obligation to question everything and search for veracity from a wide variety of reliable sources.

To support our students becoming responsible digital citizens, we integrate the Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship curriculum throughout our school, from PreK through grade 12. We are proud to have been named a Common Sense School because of our commitment to digital citizenship.
